Wicked with new technology

Visual Focus took a trip behind the scenes of the Empire Theatre’s production of Wicked to see how our new 12000 lumen laser projectors were hanging. Impressive!

Integrating projection, the design team use two matched Epson 12,000 lumen laser projectors on a large rear projection screen with high quality 12 metres x 8 metres still and moving images as backdrop to the set.

Part of an upgrade to the Visual Focus hire stock, the Epson EB-L1505 projectors fitted with short throw lens meet a growing demand from professional theatres and touring productions to integrate new technologies such as projection into their theatrical work.

Visual Focus was delighted to deliver technology to assist Video Designer, Optikal Bloc’s Craig Wilkinson with Wicked Director Alison Vallette, Designer Josh Mcintosh and Production Manager/Lighting Designer Tim Panitz among the experienced creative team.

The Empire Theatre’s 2017 major production of Broadway musical Wicked takes the classic story behind The Wizard of Oz and flips the perspective, telling the previously untold story of the Witches of Oz. The story follows unlikely friends Elphaba and Glinda as they overcome rivalry, envy and ambition in the face of a corrupt government. Wicked proves the world we came to love in the original tale, The Wizard of Oz, may not be all it appears to be.

Congratulations to the creatives, cast and production team for a brilliant season.

Catch the show before it closes on 9 April at Toowoomba’s Empire Theatre.
